Calling all young filmmakers! The White House is accepting entries for the White House Student Film Festival through July 15.

K-12 students, including graduating seniors, can submit their video on the theme “The World I Want to Live In.” If selected, the filmmakers have a chance to attend the film festival at the White House.

The White House called on students to share their vision for the country and world they want to live in, as well as their hopes and dreams for the future. The White House suggested students consider weighty topics such as civic engagement, the environment, and social justice. To get their creative juices flowing, students can watch the selected videos from last year.

Teams are allowed, but the video must be submitted by someone over the age of 18–this could include a student, teacher, or parent/guardian.

Also, the videos must be:

  • Less than three minutes in length.
  • Made by students in grades K-12.
  • Appropriate for the general public.
  • Free from any use copyrighted material including music, TV shows, or movies.
  • Uploaded to YouTube.
  • Received by 11:59 p.m. ET on July 15.

After the submission period ends, a panel of judges consisting of White House staff, President Obama’s administration, and the American Film Institute staff will conduct two rounds of judging. During both the preliminary and final rounds judges will score on creativity in expression of the theme, originality, and technical quality.

Full rules and submission guidelines are on the official festival website.
