The Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) announced that it has selected Everlaw, a cloud-native investigation and litigation platform, for a multi-year standardized contract to transform the commonwealth’s legal technology.

VITA, Virginia’s lead cybersecurity and executive branch IT agency, chose Everlaw after an extensive evaluation and vetting process. Ultimately it decided on Everlaw for its scalability, self-service platform, and security.

Everlaw will help Virginia to protect its most sensitive litigation data. The platform has been through a third-party assessment for FedRAMP and StateRAMP, allowing it to operate as a cloud service provider for multiple Federal and state and local agencies.

“Often local and state organizations are challenged resource-wise in their move to the cloud. With VITA doing the heavy-lifting for security and pricing, those orgs can confidently and easily gain the advantages of Everlaw’s cloud platform,” said Jessica Shane, director of state, local, and education at Everlaw. “Building on our StateRAMP authorization, the green light from VITA is another important milestone in our company’s mission to transform public sector legal work.”

Specifically, Everlaw will help Virginia to:

  • Manage large, complex litigation matters in a single collaborative space;
  • Cut down the response time on public records requests, transforming the process into a low-effort, citizen-friendly experience; and
  • Streamline the legal holds process and reduce the risk of human error with automated notifications, escalations, and a built-in audit trail.

According to VITA, the contract runs through December 6, 2025 – with two remaining renewals.

“VITA’s approval means that Everlaw’s ediscovery platform meets the demands of litigation, investigations, public records requests, and legal holds in one intuitive, secure, self-service platform to collaborate across state matters,” Everlaw said in the press release.
