Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has appointed Ryan Mulhall as the new executive director of the Iowa Communications Network.
The Iowa Communications Network (ICN) is an independent state agency that administers Iowa’s statewide fiber optic telecommunications network. According to the governor’s office, ICN utilizes 3,400 miles of fiber to provide a secure, reliable network for education, healthcare, public safety, and government across Iowa.
“I am grateful to Governor Reynolds for the opportunity to lead the Iowa Communications Network into the future,” said Mulhall. “The ICN’s critical infrastructure provides connectivity for many essential functions in our state, including healthcare and 911, and we will continue to find ways to make the network more resilient, reliable, and secure.”
Mulhall is already familiar with ICN’s work, having served as the network’s chief information officer since March 2016. Prior to joining state government, Mulhall worked in communications for the United States Army in Afghanistan and on military bases in the United States.
“Iowans living in both rural and metro communities rely on connectivity across our state. For more than 30 years, the Iowa Communications Network has provided vital services in all 99 counties,” said Gov. Reynolds. “Ryan is an exceptional leader with impressive experience, and I know he’ll continue to build on the trusted and reliable work ICN has already achieved.”
