The New York City Department of Transportation (DoT) has launched the ParkNYC app, which is intended to make life easier for drivers paying to park in the city.
“NYC DOT’s new ParkNYC app makes paying for parking more convenient and less time-consuming,” said DoT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. “This update addresses users’ top request: to pay as they go seamlessly without the need to pre-load a digital wallet. We are proud to launch a new ParkNYC app to help in DOT’s efforts to modernize curb management.”
According to the city, the new app includes a “modern and user-friendly interface” and enables drivers to pay-as-you-go for a parking session, as well as the continued ability to pre-load a ParkNYC wallet. The city noted that many of the same features with the previous parking app will still be available, including letting users check how much time is remaining, choose to receive push notifications when time is about to expire, and extend their time to maximum limit without returning to the vehicle.
The city said that Current ParkNYC users will not need to download a different app. Rather, the existing app will either update automatically, or users will be asked to update it in the Apple App Store or in Google Play. However, returning users must select “sign up” when first launching the new app, which requires a new account be created on the ParkNYC app or website, using the same mobile phone number that was previously registered.
The ParkNYC app was developed by Flowbird, and both the city and Flowbird will promote the new app through digital advertising platforms.
