North Dakota Secretary of State Michael Howe announced the launch of an upgraded Campaign Finance Reporting System and a new Statement of Interests System aimed at improving transparency and simplifying required filings for candidates and officeholders.
Under state law, candidates and political committees that meet certain thresholds must file campaign finance reports with the Secretary of State’s office at set times during the year.
The upgraded campaign finance system is designed to provide a more user-friendly way to report donations and expenditures in compliance with North Dakota Century Code Chapter 16.1-08, according to the release.
The new Statement of Interests System allows candidates, statewide and legislative officeholders, and governor-appointed board members to disclose their financial interests annually. The system reflects a change enacted by the 2025 Legislative Assembly in House Bill 1469, which increased the frequency of required reporting.
Statements of Interests are intended to give the public insight into potential conflicts of interest involving public officials. The system is also expected to host oaths of office in the future for elected officials and individuals appointed to boards or agencies by the governor.
“The launch of these systems marks a significant step forward in our efforts to ensure that electoral practices in North Dakota remain open, transparent, and accountable,” Howe said, adding that the systems are intended to support transparency and accountability in state government.
Both systems allow the public to access and search information related to campaign finance contributions and expenditures.
