Indiana named John Stark its chief privacy officer. Stark is also the state’s director of digital governance, a role he has held since August.
“I step into this position with the utmost respect and sincerity. Protecting the privacy of Hoosiers is foundational to the work we do every day at the State, and I look forward to building upon the stellar work of my predecessors,” Stark said in a Sept. 8 LinkedIn post.
The dual role puts Stark at the intersection of the state’s privacy, data, and artificial intelligence (AI) efforts. In his digital governance position, Stark leads work on enterprise governance frameworks and AI governance.
Stark has been with Indiana state government since 2019. Before becoming director of digital governance in August, he served as director of data governance.
His previous state roles included positions with the Indiana Department of Revenue and the Office of Technology Services. Stark has also served on the Enterprise Data Management Association’s U.S. Public Sector Forum Steering Committee.
