Learning won’t stop at the end of the spring semester for incoming Clarkson University students.
The New York State school, which specializes in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, announced that it is launching a new virtual program this summer dubbed special “Let’s Get Tech!”
The program is intended to help transition students from high school to college. Students will have access to non-credit bearing workshops and learning modules designed to help them succeed in their first year of college. All sessions also include mentorship from current students and faculty as well as first-year program advisors.
In a press release, Clarkson University said the program will cover a wide range of topics, including how to study, online math refresher courses, writing skills classes, and STEM-building skills, and will be no additional charge for students matriculating into Clarkson this fall.
Due to COVID-19 precautions, the early summer sessions will be online and include classes scheduled in real-time with instructors and some that are self-paced with prerecorded, guided instruction. The school has not yet announced specific dates for the summer sessions.
In addition to the summer programming, the school is using donated funding to send select income-eligible students in the incoming Fall 2021 class at Clarkson a laptop to start using in June at no charge.
“The events of this past year and the pivot to remote learning during COVID-19 that many high school students had to make proved just how important it is that all students have equal access to technology,” the university said.
