California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the appointment of Liana Bailey-Crimmins as the Director of the California Department of Technology (CDT) and state CIO.
Bailey-Crimmins has been the State CTO since 2021 after serving as CISO at the California Public Employees’ Retirement System from 2019 to 2021 and where she was also the Chief Health Director from 2017 to 2019, and CIO from 2013 to 2017.
“In these pivotal roles, she is tasked with improving technology performance as an investment in California’s future and advises the governor on the strategic management of the state’s technology resources,” Bailey-Crimmins’ bio states.
“She is also working to close the state’s digital divide as chair of the California Broadband Council and Middle-Mile Broadband Advisory Committee,” it continues.
In addition to her prior roles at the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, Bailey-Crimmins was CIO at the California Correctional Health Care Services, as well as deputy CIO before that.
Recently, the state announced the creation of an Office of Data and Innovation to help facilitate efficient state operations and support projects. The office is comprised of CalData, California’s data analytics bureau, and the Office of Digital Innovation.
