11. Public Trust Is a Critical Problem
The report notes that, “governments, infrastructures, industries, businesses and individuals are betting a lot on going digital, going smart, and going connected.” This movement has the potential to belly flop if the public does not trust governments to digitally hold their data while still keeping it safe from hackers.
Though the report details a digital world full of dangers, there are proactive things being done in both the Federal and local governments.
Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said that he plans to make cybersecurity his top priority when he becomes chairman of the Governor’s Board in July. He said on Tuesday that he would be asking to put together a cyber task force, because “we all have unique issues and concerns state by state but we’re all coming together.”
