The City and County of Denver has tapped Sean Greer as the city’s new chief data officer.

Greer is no stranger to the city government, having served as the city’s IT director of service delivery for the past five years. Prior to joining the government, Greer worked for Denver’s airport for more than a decade.

“Sean is a seasoned technology leader who excels at driving innovation, strategic planning, and operation excellence,” said Suma Nallapati, Denver’s CIO. “With a proven track record of innovation and leadership in technology and data management, Sean will be instrumental in driving data-driven decision-making and advancing the city’s digital transformation.”

In his new role, Greer will be tasked with developing a comprehensive data strategy, using raw data to develop actionable insights that improve city operations and enhance citizen experiences, and creating data governance frameworks to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.

“I am honored to assume the role of chief data officer. Denver has established itself as a leader in addressing complex challenges with groundbreaking and innovative solutions. Data is the cornerstone of this progress, and I am thrilled to spearhead the initiatives that will drive our city’s data-driven future,” said Greer.

In his previous role, Greer led efforts to implement a new Automation Center of Excellence program within the city. Denver said that to date, the city’s automation efforts have saved $2.9 million and over 54,000 hours of staff work.
