Fairmont State University in West Virginia has appointed Paul Steinhaus as its new chief information officer (CIO).

“Fairmont State is committed to leveraging technology to further our Strategic Vision of being A Great Place to Learn, to Work, and to Call Home,” said President Mike Davis. “Paul Steinhaus brings a depth of experience and visionary leadership that will help propel our institution forward in an increasingly digital world. His expertise will ensure that our students, faculty, and staff have access to high quality and secure technology, fostering an innovative and effective learning environment.”

As CIO, Steinhaus will oversee the university’s IT strategy, and will work to advance technology-driven initiatives that support student success and institutional goals. The university said his leadership will “be instrumental in enhancing digital resources, strengthening cybersecurity measures, and fostering a culture of innovation.”

Steinhaus is no stranger to higher education, having served as CIO and director of IT at multiple colleges and universities, including LaRoche College, Saint Vincent College, and Chatham University. In previous roles, he has focused on instructional technology, administrative computing, library services, network and infrastructure, system administration, support services, and cybersecurity.

Most recently, he was the CIO at Chatham University where he led technology initiatives. In his near 22 years at the university, he implemented technology solutions to enhance institutional efficiency, student engagement, and faculty support.

“I am honored and excited to join Fairmont State University as Chief Information Officer. This is a pivotal time in higher education, as institutions are navigating rapid technological advancements, striving to provide secure technology, and preparing students for the opportunities and challenges of a digitally connected world,” said Steinhaus. “Fairmont State has an incredible opportunity to reimagine how technology can enhance teaching, learning, and institutional processes. I look forward to partnering with students, faculty, and staff to leverage technology to enhance the educational experience, improve efficiency, and support student success inside and outside the classroom.”
